What are the Common Types of Motorcycles?

Riding a motorcycle for some is a lifestyle and for others, is simply a way to relax and see the town with an entirely new perspective. If you have always had a passion for motorcycles or if you are interested in shopping around for a new bike of your own, there are multiple bike types available to get accustomed to before you make your selection.

Standard

Standard bikes are the basic street motorcycles on the market today. This style is often ideal for new riders or those who are simply looking for an inexpensive bike. Standard motorcycles lack accessories and are generally plain, but are also light weight and more compact than larger models.

Sport Bikes

There are sport-tourer, dual-sport and traditional sport motorcycles, all with a variety of shapes, features and parts. Traditional sport bikes are generally quick, lightweight and sometimes flashy in color and design. Although most sport bikes offer seating for two, it is very compact and may not be as comfortable for dual riders.

Off-road or dirt bikes

Off-Road Bikes are motorcycles that are extremely compact, lightweight and able to tackle a wide range of terrain. Many types of dirt bikes are considered illegal on the road and must be driven on a track or in a designated off-road area. Dirt bikes are known for their ability to maintain speed and traction on bumpy roads, hills and off-road riding tracks.
